Icelandic horses are a perfect reflection of their country. Pure descendants from 9th century Viking horses, they embody the landscape around them and complete Iceland’s timeless or “lost in time” scenery.
When an Icelandic horse leaves Iceland it can never return home. During my stay there, this factoid was a recurring thought. Somehow it made the horses left behind seem lonely and imprisoned.
The abscence of horses in this gallery is due to the fact that they all left, and never returned.
